The Owl Group has completed the purchase of a 16.63-acre site off Brascote Lane in Newbold Verdon, Leicestershire, which it said carries outline planning permission for 135 new homes.

The deal was set out in a release issued by Roar PR on the housebuilder's behalf, with an indicative site layout attached. The release did not name the seller or give a price.

Owl Homes was established in 2015, according to the company's website, and the group says it continues to grow across the East and West Midlands. Its East Midlands business is led by managing director Mike Kelly, with Conor Garvey as head of land and partnerships.

Other housebuilding in Newbold Verdon

Newbold Verdon has also been the subject of a separate land deal by another housebuilder. Land promoter Richborough said in August 2024 that it had sold a circa 34-acre residential site in the village to Persimmon for up to 239 homes, following a successful planning appeal.

Richborough said the Persimmon scheme would include 40% on-site affordable housing. Its project page for Brascote Lane says Persimmon was appointed as its delivery partner, has started construction and is marketing the development as Brascote Park.

Persimmon Homes North Midlands said on 19 August 2024 that it had completed the land purchase, with up to £2.1m pledged in community contributions. Those included more than £1m for education and £160,000 for healthcare.

Dan Endersby, managing director of Persimmon Homes North Midlands, said at the time: "We're proud to have completed the purchase of land to deliver up to 239 new homes in Newbold Verdon."

The figures

The 16.63-acre figure and the 135-home outline permission are those given by Owl for the land it has now bought. The circa 34-acre site and the 239 homes relate to the land Richborough sold to Persimmon, and the two should not be conflated.

When Richborough marketed its Brascote Lane land in April 2023, it described a circa 34-acre site with a net site area of circa 16 acres.

Richborough said at the time that the land benefited from a preferred housing allocation in the emerging Hinckley and Bosworth Draft Local Plan.
